The Sparrow’s Song
In the hush before the tempest breaks,
a sparrow clings to the weathered wire,
feathers ruffled like forgotten prayers,
yet its small heart beats with unyielding fire.
Rain lashes down in silver whips,
winds howl to tear the world apart—
still it holds, wings tucked tight,
a speck of brown against the dark.
When frost claims the barren field
and hunger gnaws with teeth of ice,
it scratches frozen earth for seeds,
reminding dawn that life persists.
No eagle’s wing, no lion’s roar,
just quiet courage, day by day—
the sparrow rises, shakes the storm,
and sings its fragile, stubborn praise.
So let us learn from feather and bone:
resilience lives in the small and plain.
Though tempests rage and fortunes fall,
we too can sing, and rise again.

The Gray Catbird
Slate shadow slips through the green veil,
a hush of wings in the understory’s hush.
Black cap tilted like a secret whispered,
tail a slender banner flicked in quiet defiance.
He perches on a twig of last year’s thorn,
gray breast soft as morning mist,
eyes bright beads scanning the leaf-litter floor
where beetles gleam like scattered stars.
Then the voice—wild, untamed—
a liquid spill of stolen songs:
robin’s trill, jay’s scold, the wind’s own sigh,
and always that low, velvet mew
like a small gray ghost calling home.
In thickets thick with summer’s tangle,
he dances the hidden paths of light and shade,
builder of nests woven tight with moss and thorn,
guardian of fledglings tucked in emerald dark.
No flash of scarlet, no golden crown—
just quiet elegance in the ordinary green,
the catbird, singer of borrowed beauty,
who teaches the woods how to speak in many tongues
while remaining forever, unmistakably,
himself.

Roasted Rosemary Red Potatoes
Simple, crispy, buttery, and herb-packed — the perfect side dish!
Ingredients (serves 4-6):
• 2–2.5 lbs small red potatoes, halved or quartered
• 4–6 tablespoons butter, cut into small pats
• 2–3 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
• 1–2 teaspoons kosher salt (or to taste)
• 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or more to taste)
• Optional: 2–3 garlic cloves, minced; a drizzle of olive oil; grated Parmesan for finishing
Instructions:
1. Prep the potatoes — Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Wash the red potatoes well (no need to peel). Cut into even-sized pieces so they roast uniformly.
2. Season — Place the cut potatoes in a large baking dish or sheet pan. Dot generously with butter pats. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and the chopped rosemary. If using garlic or a little olive oil, add it now. Toss everything together right in the dish so the potatoes are evenly coated.
3. Roast — Bake for 35–45 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the potatoes are golden brown and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. For extra crispiness, broil for the last 2–3 minutes.
4. Finish & serve — Taste and adjust seasoning. Optional: sprinkle with fresh Parmesan or an extra pinch of rosemary right before serving.
Tips for Success:
• Red potatoes give a creamy interior with great skin texture.
• Don’t skimp on the rosemary — the fresh chopped version you see in the photo releases amazing aroma while roasting.
• Butter + high heat = those beautiful crispy edges.
These go perfectly with roasted chicken, steak, grilled fish, or even alongside eggs for breakfast.
